According to the Quebec Permanent Anticorruption Unit (UPAC), officers spent a lot of time going after reports about counterfeit vaccine passports this year. The yearly report by the police force said that approximately 300 of 795 calls had to do with their use and production of these COVID-19 vaccination documents.
This report covered a whole year, culminating in the end of March 2022.
The callers also alleged that numerous office holders and public servants were producing them. Quebec had been using its vaccine passport system from September 2021 to March 2022.
This involved Quebecers showing COVID-19 vaccination proof before entering venues and businesses considered non-essential. UPAC reported that 41 cases of falsification were actively being investigated. Three individuals have received criminal charges too.
Frédérick Gaudreau, head of the police force in question, said that they took the allegations seriously. People in civil service, he said, are those trusted by their constituents and must therefore hold integrity. On top of that, the practice has also posed a serious health risk to the general public.
